Brief History
Before emerging independently as the Ministry of Industry (2), Since 1957 Peoples' Manufacturing Enterprise under the then Department of Industry had produced cutlery such as Maung Bama cycles,spoons, knives, Maung Bama blades, hack saw blades, bulbs and fluorescent
tubes, house-hold electrical materials and theavy motor vehicles.
In
1963 the name was changed as Heavy Industry Works, on 1st April 1975 the name was
again changed asas Heavy Industries Corporation and placed under the Ministry
of Industry 2. At that time not only the Heavy Enterprise Corporation,
but also Central Research Enterprise were under the Ministry of Industry (2). Again, on
1st September, 1988 Ministry of Industry (1) and Ministry of Industry (2) were merged and managed by a single minister,
and the name was also changed as "Myanmar Heavy Industry
Enterprise".
In 1992, on 29th January, the Ministry of Industry (2) was
formed separately ,composed of Myanmar Heavy Industry Enterprise, Myanmar Fritz Werner
Industry Enterprise Company Limited and Industry Manufacturing Enterprise.
Central Research Enterprise, which was under the Ministry of Industry (2) was
namely changed as "Myanmar Science and Technology Department" and was
transformed to the Ministry of Science and Technology. Six industrial
enterprises under the Ministry of Industry (1) also took part in the Expo and
displayed their products.
- To implement freely in accord with the market
oriented economy, production of finished goods, distribution, purchasing
of raw materials.
- Production, distribution and selling of
agricultural industrial materials, tools, spareparts and repairing.
- Selling of products to foreign markets.
- Doing necessary experiments, doing research and
means for the progress of the tasks.
- Production, distribution and selling of
materials of forging, casting, die casting and press parts for the
factories and workshops which are under the supervision of the Ministry
and for other departments.
- By using the local machines and industrial
technology production of materials which are otherwise to be imported
from aboard.
- Transfer of industrial technology to the private
industrial entrepreneurs who are in the local industry zones.
- Offering surplus services and aid for the
progress of other State owned economic organizations.
- Upgrading the calibre and knowledge of the staff
employees under the Ministry.
- To provide and support the social welfare of the employees under the Ministry according
to the framework laid down by the authorities,
Ministry of Industry (2) is composed of the following department and enterprises:-

- Department of Myanmar Industrial Planning
- Myanmar Motorvehicles and Diesel Engines

- Enterprise of Myanmar Agricultural Production
- Myanmar Machine Equipments and Electrical Goods
Production Enterprise
- Myanmar Tyres and Rubber Production Enterprise
- Myanmar Factories and Buildings Construction Enterprise
FE Earning
There are nine factories under the Ministry of Industry (2) and one Industrial Training School. These factories are producing all
kinds of tyres, tubes, vehicles, light-vehicles, cycles, pumping machines, hand-held tractors, tractors, paddy-winnowing
machines, hoves, bulbs, flourescent tubes, batteries, transformers, electric-meters and
house hold electrical materials. To
earn foreign exchange the casted iron goods, spare parts for machines, anvils, buses, parts for
water works, ribbon blender, power tillers and light vehicles are exported.
Joint Ventures
To promote the foreign investment and to get technology transfer joint venture companies are being
established for production. Joint venture companies are Myanmar-Fritz Warner Industry Company Limited,
Myanmar Daewoo Electronics Co.Ltd, Myanmar-Daewoo Motor Co.Ltd, Myanmar-Suzuki Motor Co.Ltd, and Myanmar-
Ikarat Co.Ltd.
Establishment of Myanmar Industrial
(Department)Bank Myanmar
Industrial Development Bank was opened at Yangon in 1996 and the Mandalay Branch was opened in 1997
with the objective of providing financial aids to the industrial enterpreneurs.
To supervise and uplift the industrial enterprises according to the management of the Industrial Enterprises
Supervison Sub-Committee and also for providing necessary help 17 industry Zones have been established as follows:-
