Ministry of Sports
The Ministry of Sports, formal on 18 November 1997, oversees all the sports activities in Myanmar.

Myanmar Sports and Physical Education Committee is promoting sports in accordance with the slogan "Myanmar sports the world to conquer."

Minister for Sports chairs the Myanmar Sports and Physical Education Committee. There are 14 state and Division Sports and Physical Education Committee and 308 Township Sports and Physical committees to take charge of Sports activities in their respective regions.

Myanmar Olympic Committee The Myanmar Olympic Committee was formed in 1946 and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the following year. There are 36 sports federations formed under the Committee. Minister for Sports is Chairman of the Committee and the Director General of the Sports and Physical Education Department acts as its General Secretary.

The Committee's main responsibility is to support Olympic and regional sports meets. The Committee trains sport men and sports women, make arrangements to enable them to take part in international meets and overseas Olympic-related events.

The Department of Sports and Physical Education This department is under the Ministry of Sports and acts as a link between the Ministry Myanmar Olympic Committee and the Sports and Physical Education Committee to carry out their tasks.

Institute of Sports and Physical Education The institute was opened on 27 July 1996, It is located on the 147 acre Kyaikkasan sports ground (former race course). Tamwe Township, Yangon.  Training on sports and education began on 1 August 1997. The Institute trains boys and girls on football, volleyball, track- and - field, boxing, weight lifting, judo, swimming, badminton, gymnastics and Thaing (Myanmar martial arts) and at the sometime allows them to continue their schooling. The trainers receive their formal education from the fifth standard to matriculation level and the training lacto for one to sire years.

Sports Grounds and Gymnasiums There are 223 sports grounds and 75 gymnasiums throughout the country. Most well-known among them are Aung San Stadium, Aung San Gymnasium, youth Training Center, National Indoor Stadium (1), National swimming Pool and Dagon North International Swimming Pool in Yangon and Bahtoo Sports Ground in Mandalay.

Marathon The marathon, sponsored by the Yangon Mayor, is the most popular event. International athletes , well-known marathon runners from the country and amateurs took part in the event. It has been held since 1991 and in the 1995 marathon, more than 60000 runners including those from foreign countries took part.
